your abode was created because we are passionate about bringing green and eco friendly homes within the reach of everyone. We have both lived, travelled and worked overseas and have seen the range of options/solutions for designing and building eco friendly homes from across the globe.

Darryn Parkinson – design and construction director

Darryn Parkinson has over 20 years experience in design and construction. He believes that to truly create a green or eco friendly home you need to combine both the design and the construction. Both disciplines need to work in harmony together as a green home isn’t just about how it is designed, but also about how it’s built.

Darryn is driven towards changing the way houses are designed and built in Australia. It is ultimately unsustainable for homes to continue to be designed and built without consideration for the resources and energy consumed, and the waste created during both the construction and the lifetime of a home.

Darryn’s work seeks to strike a balance between creating a modern Australian house, a client’s needs and wants and the greater environment. Darryn has a strong knowledge of passive design principles as well as water and energy reduction techniques. This coupled together with a solid understanding of building materials and methodologies means that you will get the greenest house possible.

Sharon Hamilton – interior design director

Sharon Hamilton is a Green Interior Designer. She is one of a small number of interior designers in Australia who is focused on green and eco friendly interiors and works with clients who are looking to create a more eco friendly home that takes into account human health, human comfort and the greater environment.

Sharon’s pursuit of green interiors is driven by her opinion that we need to reinvent the way we build and create the interiors of our homes. She strongly believes that it is fundamentally unacceptable that we build into our homes unsustainable products and materials that have toxic emissions and/or contain harmful chemicals. Sharon is constantly researching materials, products and methodologies that offer superior alternatives.

The key to Sharon’s work is balancing a modern interior with the fundamentals of her green ethos. Sharon takes careful consideration in sourcing products and materials from manufacturers that have reduced, or sometimes even eliminated, harmful chemicals from their products and who follow sustainable business practices, which means that your home is healthier for you to live in whilst reducing its impact on the earth’s resources.
